SUMMARY:Class 2023 - Session 3
DESCRIPTION:8:30 AM Networking Breakfast sponsored by Tax 2 Go\, LLC - Charles Williams\n\n \n\n9:00 AM 2022 Dallas County Community Health Needs Assessment Presentation\n\n	Teresita Oaks\, Director\, Community Health Programs\, Parkland Health\n	Dr. Phillip Huang\, Medical Director\, Dallas County HHS\n\nThe spirit of the CHNA is to bring hospitals\, public health systems\, health related entities\, not-for-profit agencies\, and community members together to identify critical health priorities more effectively\, collaboratively\, and efficiently for Dallas County residents and to drive high quality decision-making in the planning and deployment of community health programs.\n\n \n\n9:45 AM Discussion on Key Findings\; Top 3 Chronic Diseases - Mental Health\, Hypertension\, Diabetes\n\n\n	Dr. Jill Wagner\, Methodist Charlton Medical Center\n	Dr. Smith\, Dr. Erika Walker-Williams\, Crescent Regional Hospital\n	Dr. Ericka Walker Williams\, UT Southwestern Medical Center\n	Dr. Fred Cerise\, Parkland Health\n\n11:00 AM Class Project Discussion with Board Liaison\, Rolanda Price\n\n \n\n12:00 PM Lunch sponsored by UT Southwestern Medical Center\n\n\n	Sponsor presentation with Victoria Doby\, Clinic Manager\n\n12:45 PM Regional CARE Team - Crisis Assessment Resource Engagement\n\n\n	Raven Thousand\, Team Manager\n	Lieutenant Melissa Franks\, DeSoto Police Department.\n\nAs a multi-disciplinary group\, the Regional CARE Team provides community behavioral health support to individuals and their families. We are a free resource provided by the participating cities (Cedar Hill\, DeSoto\, Duncanville\, and Lancaster) for our residents. Our purpose is to assist individuals experiencing behavioral health needs and their families/support systems to access\, navigate\, understand\, and utilize appropriate community referral sources. We do not respond to 9-1-1\, but instead we are here to provide prevention services before a crisis begins and follow up after a crisis to help in preventing another.\n\n\n\n1:15 PM Community Equity - Specific geographic areas with concentrated low economic investment and low infrastructure as defined by the Center for Health Disparities Research at the University of Wisconsin are correlated with worse health outcomes including maternal and child health indicators in Dallas County. Consistent negative characteristic features of these well-defined areas are higher poverty rates\, low access to food\, higher mortgage forbearance rate\, higher uninsured rates\, shortage of physicians and limited access to healthcare facilities. A higher concentration of Black/African Americans\, non-Hispanic and Hispanics reside in these areas.\n\n\n\nGetting to know Health Clinics in our Area \n\n\n\n2:00 PM Behavioral Health Focus - First Responder Mental Health\n\n\n	City of Cleburne Fire Chief Scott Lail\n\nReadiness Group with Dr. Brenda Tillman\, Dr. Erika Sallee\, Dr. Kelly Guidry\, \n\nReadiness Group's strength lies in its story. It's more of a purpose and a mission than it is a business. We are a trio of clinicians who have spent many hours working with families in crisis often wishing we could have met these clients when their problems were smaller\, but still significant. We have had the fortune of learning from people facing all different challenges (or sometimes opportunities) in life. From first responders and military personnel dealing with trauma as a part of their job description\, to families with children who are suicidal or are facing severe medical needs. We've walked the path with many individuals that most would think you can't recover from. And do you know what we've learned? That human beings and families are incredibly resilient. And that often\, the difference between coping and full overwhelm is simply awareness of the resources that are already within. So that is our mission. To build programs for families and organizations that help to recognize those resources early\, establish a buffer to enjoy life and respond to challenge when necessary\, and to recover stronger from challenge on the other side.\n\n\n\n4:00 PM Mental Health Legislation
